The achievements of Professor Dr. Mehmet Haberal

establishment of one of the strongest medical and academic infrastructures
dedicated to organ transplantation and burn treatment in Türkiye and the
region.
- 1978: Professor Mehmet Haberal founded Türkiye’s first organized and
specialized organ transplantation center at Hacettepe University, laying
the cornerstone for a new era in Turkish medicine.
- During the 1980s: He played a pivotal role in developing burn treatment and
reconstructive surgery centers, which later became among the most
important referral centers in Türkiye and the surrounding region.
- 1993: He founded Başkent University, which subsequently became one of the
country’s leading academic and medical institutions, comprising a broad
network of university hospitals and specialized medical centers.
- Since 1993 to the present day: He has led the expansion and development of
Başkent University Hospitals and their specialized centers in:
- Liver, kidney, and pancreas transplantation
- Advanced burn surgery
- Immunology and tissue transplantation
- Advanced intensive care
- Biomedical research
- Specialized surgical education and training
These institutions have played a significant role in
transforming Türkiye into a global center for organ transplantation and medical
tourism, attracting patients and physicians from around the world.
