Microsurgical Discectomy

Microsurgical Discectomy

What Is Microsurgery (Mikrocerrahi)? Microsurgical discectomy is an advanced surgical technique used to treat herniated discs in the spine (neck and lower back).

It is performed using a surgical microscope, allowing the surgeon to operate with high precision through a small incision. Although it is a surgical procedure, it is less invasive than traditional open surgery.

Is It an Open Surgery? Yes, but it is not a large open surgery. The incision is small, and surrounding muscles and tissues are preserved as much as possible.

When Is Surgery Needed?

Microsurgery may be recommended in cases of:

·       Severe, persistent pain

·       Nerve compression

·       Muscle weakness

·       Ongoing numbness

·       Reduced mobility or quality of life

How Is the Procedure Performed?

·       Usually performed under general anesthesia

·       A small incision is made

·       A surgical microscope is used for precision

·       The compressed part of the disc is removed

·       Healthy tissues are preserved

·       The procedure is relatively short

Many patients can be discharged within a short period.

Advantages of Microsurgery

Small incision
 High surgical precision
 Minimal muscle damage
 Less postoperative pain
 Faster recovery than traditional surgery
 Effective and long-lasting results

The goal is to relieve nerve pressure while preserving spinal integrity.

Is It Suitable for Everyone?

Not all patients require surgery.
However, in advanced cases, microsurgery is a safe and effective option.

Treatment is always based on detailed medical evaluation.

A Message to Patients

If your symptoms do not improve with conservative treatments,
modern surgical techniques like microsurgery offer precise treatment with minimal impact and faster recovery.
