Hope Beyond Borders: Complex Surgery Saves Mongolian Infant at Başkent Konya Hospital
The medical team at Başkent Konya Hospital
successfully saved a Mongolian infant suffering from two critical
life-threatening conditions through a highly complex surgical intervention
requiring coordination between multiple specialties.
The baby was born with a rare congenital heart defect
involving complete closure of the valve responsible for carrying blood from the
heart to the lungs, leading to severe circulatory complications and critically
low oxygen levels. During medical evaluations in Turkey, doctors also
discovered an intestinal perforation that further complicated the case.
Following her arrival at Başkent Konya Hospital, the
infant underwent comprehensive diagnostic assessments by specialized teams, who
determined that urgent intervention was required to treat both conditions
simultaneously.
A highly delicate surgery was performed to correct the
congenital heart defect and repair the intestinal perforation within an
integrated treatment plan. The procedure required advanced surgical expertise
and intensive postoperative care.
The operation involved pediatric cardiac surgery, pediatric
surgery, and intensive care teams, with continuous monitoring throughout the
recovery period until the infant’s condition stabilized significantly.
Throughout the treatment journey, Dr. Omer AliKerkuklu closely followed the patient’s condition and maintained continuous
communication with the family, supporting them throughout their stay in Turkey
and helping them feel reassured during this difficult period.
As the infant’s condition improved, the family
expressed deep gratitude to the medical team, stating that their journey to
Turkey gave their child a new chance at life.
The infant was discharged from Başkent Konya Hospital
in stable condition after a challenging treatment journey that ended with hope.
